THANKSGIVING 2014

I had a great experience a week ago teaching at a local school here in Seville. I am so glad I had this opportunity to share about my culture since I have spent the last three months learning about this one. All of the students were so fun and I really enjoyed meeting and talking with them. I met people of all different ages and English levels, and had a great cultural exchange where we learned from one another. I learned of some tradition here in Spain that are similar to the ones I have in the States.
All the teachers were so kind and helpful as well. If I got the chance I would definitely do it again!
Even though I was away from home for the first time during this special holiday, I got to have a fun and unique experience here in Spain. I still took time to reflect and think about the things I was thankful for in this time, and my friends and I shared our ideas.
Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, and I am definitely very thankful for Juanma and all the students and staff at his school!

Halloween in El Molinillo

On Thursday October 30th we celebrated Halloween with the classes of 1^st.  We played halloween games and learned some new English vocabulary.  I think the children’s favorite game was ‘Charades’, which is a game where the students have to act out a word.  The person who guessed the word correctly in English got a piece of candy. It was fun to watch the students interpret the words in their own creative way.  We laughed, played and had a really good time!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY 2014

Amanda and I (Bianca) are college students from the United States who are studying in Sevilla for the semester. We were thrilled to hear about the opportunity to teach students at this school about the Saint Patrick's Day holiday, which is widely celebrated in the U.S. We arrived in the morning, dressed in green clothes. Amanda wore a green tie, and I wore a green boa scarf. We noticed the trees and plants inside the school almost immediately, and we both loved this idea! The greenery brings the building to life and also provides scenic natural areas for the students to enjoy. We prepared a PowerPoint presentation, which included an informational video about the history of Saint Patrick's Day, useful vocabulary, and a brief description of the regions of the United States. At the very end, we celebrated by trying to dance the Irish jig! It was so much fun, and the students seemed to be having a great time, too! We were impressed by the students and their drive to learn from us. We had a lovely time working with Juanma and the rest of the staff, too. This experience was very unique for the both of us, because we are still learning Spanish just as much as the students are still learning English, so it was very easy to relate when they had questions or needed help with the assignments. Neither one of us had ever participated in anything like this before, so we were very grateful to have had this opportunity. We hope that the students had a wonderful an experience, like we did! Thank you!!

PEACE DAY

Last Thursday, 30th January, we celebrated the International Peace Day at our school. I'd like to highlight the students' commitment and participation in all the activities. Teachers and students have had a great time together!
Some of the activites were a football match, a charity race to raise food for needy people,  presentations in English of different NGOs, prizes for the best classmates in each group, dancing, singing, doves release and folding orogami cranes among others.
A week before, we challenged all our students with the help of some bilingual students to fold 1000 origami cranes to fulfill a common wish of Worldwide Peace. They accepted and the result is more than 1700 origami cranes decorating our high school. It's been crazy!!!!
I hope we can see our wish granted in a short time.
